Small Town Night Life

Whenever we all want to get out of Mammoth and hit the "night life," we head to Gardiner, Montana! (Which is 5 miles away.)

There are 4 bars in the town. They are all located within 2 blocks of each other. Our favorite is the K-Bar.

Yes, the K-Bar is a special place. They serve the wondrous beer brewed in Missoula, Montana called "Moose Drool"...

(Notice the drool.)

It is a very dark beer. I like to think of it as the Guinness of the Wild West.

The K-Bar also serves delicious food; our favorite being the pizza. We were surprised to order a pizza one night, and out it came served personally by none other than Ranger Jim! Yes, you remember Ranger Jim - he helped us plan our back country camping trip. Well, it turns out that he also makes pizzas on the side. What a guy.

This is a photo of the inside of the 2nd bar in town, called Red's Blue Goose. Red is the name of the actual bar owner. He is in his eighties, and stands at the end of the bar every night, with a drink in hand, and watches everyone having a good time. As you might have guessed, there are animal heads on the wall...

The 3rd bar is called "The Two Bit Saloon." From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but this bar is actually from the 1880's. There are photos on the walls inside of Teddy Roosevelt stopping through Gardiner when he dedicated the Arch which leads to the North Entrance of the Park...

And last, but not least, the 4th bar in town is actually an Italian restaurant as well, called, "Rosie's."

Rosie's is awesome because they have a brand new roof top deck, which overlooks mountains. I borrowed this picture from my friend, Lori...

One night, Cathleen, Tiffany, Ross and I were on the roof top of Rosie's, and serendipitously met one of the producer's and a film editor of "Antiques Roadshow." Holla! They had just finished filming the Billings, Montana show, and had decided to stay in Gardiner for a night so that they could experience Yellowstone for a day, before heading back to Boston. (Spoiler Alert: The big find for the Billings show will be a hidden photo of Chicago behind an old oil painting that a local found from a thrift store.)

Our big find for the night was scoring free tickets to the show whenever they come to a town near us. Thank you, Antiques Roadshow!

Seeing the moon from Rosie's roof top deck... a beautiful sight indeed...
