Ok, so remember that big mountain behind the building I live in?...
We decided we would like to climb it...
From start to finish, the hike is 8 miles long.
And the mountain is appropriately named after Truman Everts. Truman was a crazy man who decided to wander off from his fellow hikers in Yellowstone while on the Washburn Expedition of 1870. He survived 37 days by himself with virtually no food or water on him in the cold fall. It is rumored that he ate his horse to stay alive. Oh, Truman.
Anyways, the story ends happily, with Truman being found alive, wrapped in bear furs.
Here is Truman... in warmer days...
Our hike was not so dangerous as that, but adventurous still...
My fabulous hiking companions on this trip:
From the left: Linda, our fearless leader who has done the hike many times before (who also has been in Yellowstone since the 80's...when people wore leg warmers and florescent colors in the Park), Laura, Cathleen and Suzanne.
As we journey up the mountain, we see some unbelievable views...
Oh my gosh it's those floating-spirit-things from Avatar!...
The inside of a fallen tree...
We're getting higher!...
Up, up and up some more...
We finally make it to the top! Here I am, doing my best not to blow away...
Here's a full view...
Ironically, the hardest part was coming back down! It was actually painful on the knees...
We reach the bottom, which was much hotter and desert-like...
Need proof? Here are some cacti...
After 5 hours of solid hiking... A RIVER! Oh yes...
Ahhhhhhhh...

Hey Debbie!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Yeah, it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. But how quickly it ends! I leave on July 30th. Hope you've been having a blast this summer... as you always do. :)
